Frida Kahlo is an inspiring artist who overcame much difficulty to forge her own path and unique style as an artist, using self portraiture that often included her many pets and imagination. In this course students will create a guided self portrait in a mixed media approach that combines my own style and techniques with Frida’s. Students will learn about Frida’s life and art, my art, mixed media, themselves, and their classmates.
Each student will have their own mixed media self portrait to treasure and share with their family and friends.
Students will learn about Frida Kahlo; who she is, her life, and her art.
Students will learn what mixed media art is and how to do it.
Students will gain observational skills as they practice translating how they see themselves into a self-portrait.
Students will learn a variety of techniques using oil pastels, watercolor, drawing, and collage.
Students will gain introspective skills as they reflect on their interests, their emotions, and what makes them unique.
