5:30 MECCA (449 Willamette St)

The Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts presents the group show "Refashionating: A Reclaimed Look" from January 6–31. This show presents artists from Eugene and Portland. MECCA is pleased to show work by Aubrey Ament, who works with recycled pieces of fabric, creating handbags, blouses, and a headdress. Lindsay Mathews, a fashion designer, presents a new twist on a party dress. From Portland, Irene Veldstra brings recycled fashion in a casual manor. Esther Ollar gives plastic bags new life by refashioning them into handbags and hair accessories for year–round use. Geordon Handy has a natural approach to found object creation, refashioning antlers found in the forests into lovely jewelry pieces, mixed with leather and pigments. Tylar Merrill is also a reuse artist of the natural kind. She felts sheep wool into stunning wearable creations, often recreating art works from local artists into her clothing designs. Mitra Chester, from Eugene's own Deluxe boutique, shows us how she can get her own refashion on. Come see how MECCA's friends define Refashion and you may decide to take home a new look!

Deb enjoys photographing the Dragon Boats out of Portland, OR. Daniel Ray is a Documentary Historian, and he likes to use both photographs and written descriptions to draw the viewer into the emotional experience of the event depicted. Russ Long is a local residential contractor with Aloha Home Builders who enjoys photography as a hobby. His favorite subjects include his kids, architecture, travels, nature, sports, and the Ducks. Jay Longfellow lives in Portland, OR, where he spends his days entrenched in graphic design and sometimes finds time in the evenings to draw and paint. He presents for us, in this show, a sample of the latter. Lee Longfellow resides in Portland, OR with Jay, where he too enjoys painting.

7:00 Harlequin Beads and Jewelry(1027 Willamette St)

Harlequin Beads and Jewelry presents multimedia work by Kimberly Gladen. She states, "Art has always been a big part of my life. Inspiration comes to me from all parts of life, both natural and man created. Ever since I was a child, I arranged things into little scenes or storytelling dioramas. Now, after a lot of thought and contemplation, I have created jewelry out of small shadow boxes, each one a story or scene. Some of them contain moving parts or puzzles. My art is a passion. The images come to me and I feel a need to create them in order to make room for the images crowded behind, waiting to be visualized. The jewelry I make is both fun and often whimsical. Life needs more whimsy.

7:30 The Woodpecker's Muse (372 West Broadway)

The Woodpecker's Muse presents "{ChaoStasis} Visuals of the very large and very small, journeying the imaginative spaces in between," a solo exhibit by David C. P. Placencia. He states, "For the last two years I have been focusing on setting the goal of being a master, and letting go of my desire for masterpieces. My mother, a Florence, Oregon artist, directly influenced my art and after her passing two years ago from Stage IV Cholangio Carcinoma, my life was turned upside down. Her life creed was 'Enjoy the Journey.' While making Christmas wrapping paper with my niece Alethia a year later, we discovered the pure fun of pattern making with blown bubbles. The Fractal imagery and organic nebulae intrigued me and over the next nine months I experimented with a multitude of pigments and materials trying to control the chaotic process and elevate it to an aesthetic that I desired. This series combines a childlike sensibility with higher scientific principles. I enjoy allowing an opportunity for the viewer's interpretation and subjective meaning because this adds a relationship and deepens individual significance." David currently studies at the University of Oregon, pursuing an Art History BA, and previously studied fine arts at Lane Community College. There will also be a musical performance provided by The Elusive Translucence & A Kyle Baker Out Of Body Experience (Granola + Gloom Prophet).

In addition, these galleries and venues will also be open during the ArtWalk from 5:30–8 pm on January 6th:
