NEXT FIRST FRIDAY ARTWALK – April 5, 2024

Celebrate Eugene’s vibrant art scene during the First Friday ArtWalk! Start your self-guided tour at Farmers Market Pavilion (85 E 8th Ave), where you can pick up your ArtWalk Guide and shop the Artist Marketplace before exploring the many galleries and art venues of Downtown Eugene. The monthly First Friday ArtWalk is from 5:30pm-8:00pm and is always free.

ARTWALK GUIDE PICK-UP


Farmers Market Pavilion
(85 E 8th Ave)

Pick up your guide and explore all the Pavilion happenings:
Artist Marketplace pop-up shops feature art for sale by local artists across multiple mediums and styles.
• Join the Community Sewing Circle, hosted by HIV Alliance and Eugene PRIDE, inviting everyone to contribute to creating a new Pride flag. All are welcome to participate. Supplies are provided, no previous sewing experience necessary!
• Visit Lavender Landmarks with a guided walking tour of some of downtown Eugene’s queer history sites, meeting at the Lane Arts Council tent at 6:00pm.
Kento’s Hibachi is on hand to fuel your evening of ArtWalk fun!

NEW: ArtWalk After Hours, 7:30pm-9:30pm
The fun continues after the galleries close with ArtWalk After Hours. End your evening at the Farmers Market Pavilion, and dance into the weekend with a live performance by Eugene’s own SoulStruck.

With high energy funk, rock and soul, SoulStruck makes it hard to not move. The core group has been together for over a decade. They are a tight-knit set of seasoned professionals who have performed at countless venues, clubs, wineries, and festivals across the Northwest and beyond, often sharing stages with well-known artists, and always with the intent to groove.

Art115: Core Studio – 2D Design at Lane Community College leverages the fundamentals of 2D design including unity, focal point, tension, spacing, and variety to create works made from black, white, and gray papers.


B. University of Oregon Center for Art Research (CFAR)
(510 Oak St)

Sacrifice Zones by Jon Bellona and Ralph Pugay features artists playing with signifiers of theatricality, hysteria, and humor in contemporary conversation regarding the notion of “apocalypse.” What are the varying scales of apocalypse? And most importantly, what might come after?

D. Lane Arts Council Design Arts Apprenticeship Showcase
(Spark on 7th, 22 W 7th Ave, 5:30pm-7:30pm)

Come see innovative products made by local middle and high school students in a unique apprenticeship with professional design artists. Products include fashion, graphic design, 3D modeling, digital art, biomimicry, and more. Meet the student designers and learn about their creative process at this interactive showcase sponsored by Connected Lane County. Hear more about the program with opening remarks at 6:00pm!

E. Emergence: Art by Currently and Formerly Incarcerated Oregonians
(Midtown Arts Center, 174 E 16th Ave) 

With art serving as the bridge between carceral and non-carceral spaces, this exhibition from the University of Oregon Prison Education Program and Sponsors, Inc. highlights currently and formerly incarcerated artists with appreciation, so viewers can connect with visually striking stories from inside the prisons. Refreshments; artist talk at 6:00pm.

Monoprint Mania! Experiment with Gelli Print Plates, an easy technique you can use to make one-of-a-kind prints at home, no printing press needed. We will be set up in the lobby so that it is accessible to all, come print with us!

Divine Dreaming – Awakening the Goddess Within, a new collection by Alysse Hennessey, explores concepts of repairing the divine in each of us, astral travel, extra sensory states of being, and the helpers we meet along the way.

The Northwest Landscape is a large invitational exhibit featuring some of the PNW’s most dynamic contemporary and historical landscape painters: Mark Clarke, Margaret Coe, Bets Cole, Carl Hall, Hart James, David McCosh, and Erik Sandgren. New works added!

12. The New Zone Gallery

In addition to the eclectic mix of art created by the New Zone members and live music during the ArtWalk, there are three special shows during the month of April:
Marching Marshmallows by Will Lotz offers an odd presentation of the odd;
From Wolf Country, visual storytelling by National Geographic explorer & conservation photographer Ronan Donovan; and
Labyrinth, a journey through past and present photographic work by Barbora Bakalarova.

13. One Wall Gallery at Epic Seconds
(30 E 11th Ave)

Vessels, a group show featuring work by Avantika Bawa, Iván Carmona, Dan Gluibizzi, Justin L’Amie, Brad Mildrexler, John Richardson, David Schell, Benjamin Terrell, Ellen Weider, and Rachael Zur. Curated by David Schell and Benjamin Terrell of the Portland art site The Semi-Finalist, the paintings, drawing and sculptures explore the notions of containment and what it means to take form. In the exhibit, the vessel is reimagined and openly interpreted as a building, the body, or perhaps form itself.

  • 19. 824 Charnelton St – Liminal bridges street and gallery art with paintings by street artist Lambtown42 on salvaged wood panels and vinyl LPs. Step inside the exhibition and meet the artist during a special pop-up gallery from 5:30pm-8:00pm!
  • 20. 260 W Broadway – Brilliant & Resilient, curated by Mobility International USA (MIUSA), is a collection of photographs featuring the personal stories of 30 disabled women activists representing diverse countries, cultures, and disabilities: physical, visual, hearing, and cognitive. Step inside the exhibition with MIUSA during a special pop-up gallery from 5:30pm-8:00pm!
  • 21. 99 W 10th Ave South Window – Forced Perspective by Agnese Cebere uses light and perspective to examine the trope of the cowboy, popularized through motion pictures and advertising, as a one-dimensional fiction.
