Crawfish boil and music by Kelly Thibodeaux and Étouffée
On August 26th, Elk Horn Brewery will host a concert and benefit event for music in schools, in memorial to Buddy Sawyer and benefiting Lane Arts Council. The evening will kick off at 5:00pm with a crawfish boil, and continue with live music 6:00-8:30pm from Kelly Thibodeaux & Étouffée.
Led by teaching artist and fiddler Kelly Thibodeaux, Étouffée combines red hot fiddle, shufflin’ rhythm and blues, and kickin’ Southern rock to create a new sound known as Swamp Rock.
Buddy Sawyer, local musician and painter of two beautiful murals at Elk Horn Brewery, passed away summer of last year. The evening honors Buddy with a celebration of music education. A portion of proceeds will support Lane Arts Council’s music programs in schools throughout Lane County.
Lane Arts Council serves thousands of students each year through in-school artist residencies and assemblies, bringing in professional visual and performing artists to work with students and teachers. Kelly Thibodeaux is one such artist, whose warm, enthusiastic personality and love for playing fiddle has enabled him to spread the joy of music throughout Oregon schools.
“Kelly taught everyone so much about music and fiddling! This was a highlight of our school year. Every student was successful, and were given a chance to shine through Kelly’s patient and encouraging guidance. Many students have been inspired to continue playing.” Carmen Robinson, 4th Grade Teacher, Lacomb Elementary
Other Lane Arts Council music residencies include Rainy Day Blues in Schools, Music in Action!, motivational hip-hop, Hawaiian, Latin American, and West African music and dance, and more.
