The arts are an essential element of a well-rounded educational experience, and teach valuable skills like self-awareness, empathy, public speaking, confidence, and media literacy. A proclamation for Arts in Education Week, to be celebrated September 8th through 14th, has been signed and certified by Governor Kate Brown.
Lane Arts Council collaborated with Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington, The Arts Center Corvallis, Latino Network, Arts in Education of the Gorge, Pendleton Center for the Arts, and the Oregon Arts Commission to write and submit this proclamation to the office of the Governor. We are proud to be a part of this powerful group of arts advocates from across our state.
Celebrate the week by being an advocate for the arts in our local schools. Donate to our arts education programming, keeping arts experiences accessible to all Lane County students. Ask your child’s school to host a professional teaching artist this school year, bringing a burst of creativity to every classroom. And if you agree that the arts are essential in our schools, spread the word! Use social media to share your story of the transformative power of the arts in education and use the hashtag #BecauseOfArtsEd.
