Lane Arts Council has awarded $16,420 in grants to eight projects in the Eugene area for the grant cycle running July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. The Community Arts Project Grant supports individuals, collectives, or organizations with projects that take place in Eugene and emphasize accessibility to underserved audiences. The Community Arts Project Grant program is funded by the City of Eugene Cultural Services Division and administered by Lane Arts Council.

A Night in Solidarity with Farm Worker Rights

Eugene Friends of the Farm Workers and PCUN Foundation host a concert with internationally-known singer-songwriter Tish Hinojosa and trio from Austin, Texas on Thursday, October 10 at 7:00pm at the Lane County Fairgrounds. The event will highlight the struggles of farm workers and the ongoing Farm Workers Rights Movement and Eugene Friends of the Farm Workers, 1972-76 exhibit at the Lane County History Museum. Sliding-scale donations at the door will benefit Oregon’s farm worker union, PCUN, and PCUN President Reyna Lopez will be an honored guest.

Free Outdoor Swing Dance Party with Live Music

Track Town Swing presents the fourth annual Track Town Throwdown, a celebration of the cultural significance of jazz music and dance. The festival will take place October 11-13, 2024 at Kesey Square and will include free open social dancing, line dances, and The Throwdown jazz dance competition, featuring live music and dance performers from all along the West Coast!

O brave new world! Free Shakespeare in the Park Theatre Company presents Shakespeare’s adventurous magical play, The Tempest! Bring picnics, blankets, lawn chairs, families, and friends and join us for an evening of fun at Amazon Community Center & Park’s centrally-located South Lawn Amphitheater, Saturdays & Sundays, August 3-25 at 6:00pm. All performances are family friendly, ADA accessible, and free of charge.

Open Art Studio Program with OSLP

Community Supported Shelters (CSS) and OSLP Arts and Culture Center has created an arts program for the unhoused in Eugene, a collaborative effort that recently garnered this year’s Arts & Business Partnership Award from the Arts and Business Alliance Eugene. CSS and OSLP’s partnership provides a sanctuary for unhoused individuals to explore the transformative power of art. Through weekly open art studio sessions, facilitated by CSS’s relational and logistical support and OSLP’s materials and guidance, participants can confront trauma, find joy, and create beauty.

OSLP Arts and Culture Scholarship Program

Since 2014, the OSLP Arts and Culture Center has provided scholarship opportunities to those who experience financial barriers to participation in our studio classes. The mission of the Arts and Culture Center is to break down barriers for all people to access art, and this Community Arts Grant will provide much-needed support for our new and returning students this year.

Queer Circus Artist Showcase

Revelers Contemporary Circus (RCC) invites queer and allied circus artists to create a collaborative, artist-led, multidisciplinary performance. Grant funding will significantly reduce rehearsal costs, lowering financial barriers to performance opportunities for local amateur, pre-professional, and professional circus artists.

Queer Youth Sing Out Loud

Queer Choir Collective, led by Lisa Forkish, will create an a cappella choir for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth (ages 14-20) in Lane County, focused on joy, expression, and cultivating a sense of belonging and community. The experience will culminate in a one-day vocal music festival and performance opportunity for the a cappella group, as well as opportunities to participate in educational workshops with local queer music educators.

Whiteaker Community Market Vendor Access Fund

The Whiteaker Community Market’s Vendor Access Fund initiative is dedicated to fostering a more inclusive and accessible market environment for local artists, with a special focus on those from historically marginalized communities. This program strategically reduces entry barriers by providing essential vending equipment like canopy tents, tables, and weights. We also offer significant financial relief by covering 50% of booth fees for BIPOC, Latinx, and Pacific Islander vendors to support greater participation in the arts economy.
