Lane Arts Council developed a new staff position to increase the scope of arts education throughout Lane County. With the addition of an Arts Education Program Manager, Lane Arts Council will increase their capacity to provide schools with high-quality arts education. This new position will oversee and implement all of Lane Arts Council’s arts education programs, working closely with schools, teaching artists, and the general arts community. “Every student in Lane County should have access to exploring their creativity and full self-expression through the arts. With a new staff position, we are on our way to achieving this goal,” states Lane Arts Council Executive Director.
This position was funded by the generous support from the Meyer Memorial Trust, the Fred W. Fields Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation, the Coast Fork Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation, and the Tykeson Family Charitable Trust.
After a competitive search, Lauren Suveges was named Lane Arts Council’s Arts Education Program Manager in March 2014. Lauren comes highly qualified for the position, most recently having worked for the International Society for Technology in Education supporting educators in online professional development. Previously, she worked at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art as a Museum Educator, both teaching and supporting in-school and out-of-school arts programming. Lauren earned a BA in Studio Arts from Otterbein University in Columbus, OH, and her MS in Arts and Administration, Community Arts Management from the University of Oregon. Lauren serves on the Board of Directors for the Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts (MECCA) and teaches an art and yoga class for kids at Freedom Yoga and Meditation. “I am thrilled to join Lane Arts Council and continue the important work of ensuring artistic experiences for all of our students. Without these opportunities, we fail to provide critical exposure to creative ways of being in the world. By bringing together artists, schools, and students, we support student learning and engagement.”
