ArtWalk Highlights:
THE EDGE OF THE OCEAN
Karin Clarke Gallery (760 Willamette St)
“The Edge of the Ocean,” featuring work by Mark Clarke, Nelson Sandgren, and Craig Spilman shows three artists’ love of the ocean and coast. Mark Clarke (1935-2016) would often begin his paintings on site and then continue to work on them in his studio. His paintings are atmospheric and layered, with a dream-like quality. Nelson Sandgren (1917-2006) enjoyed painting large scale plein air watercolors at locations such as Yachats, Pacific City, Heceta Head, Cape Arago, and the Yaquina Lighthouse. Craig Spilman’s “Seascape Series” are large-scale, graphite studies created from memory. Enjoy all three of these artistic interpretations of the ocean and its beauty. Image: Nelson Sandgren.
ART FROM EVERYDAY LIFE
Oregon Art Supply (1020 Pearl St)
Oregon Art Supply features a 2-person show with work by Emily Hildebrand and Robin Irving. “How to Take Care” is an installation of sketchbook pages, found objects, and other quiet noticings by Emily Hildebrand that gives you an intimate look into how she experiences things as a highly sensitive person, how she copes, and how she moves toward the mix of wildness and safety that she craves. “Small Works on Paper From Everyday” features a series of drawing explorations from Robin Irving’s personal everyday world, using graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor washes on paper. Open until 7:30pm. Image: Robin Irving
