Project Description
In this residency, students will learn the basics of hand-building as well as creating their very own instrument: a rattle! Students will have the unique experience of seeing the ceramic process from beginning to end, will get a hands-on exploration of clay, and will learn a brief history of indigenous clay instruments. We will end the class with a song circle in which students will use their instruments to create music.
Final Product
Each student will take home their one-of-a-kind clay instrument that they can treasure for years to come.

Why I teach art:
“I love teaching kids visual art because it is a way of expression that is still intuitive when you’re young. Working with clay specifically gives students the opportunity to connect somatically with their bodies. My hope is that, through our time together, kids will be encouraged to trust their own unique creative voices.”
