Project Description

In this residency, students will learn about artists’ books and some of the terminology and traditions associated with building books from scratch.  Students will be given materials to craft their own books and guided through the process to create unique and personalized hand-made book structures.

Final Product

At the end of this residency, each student will have their own individualized handmade book to take home.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will develop and be able to utilize specific terminology relating to book structures.

  • Students will make creative choices in the selection of the papers used to cover their books.

  • Students will be exposed to a new form of art-making and may begin to think differently about books as a potential creative object in themselves.

  • Students will utilize their dexterity and approximating skills to properly align papers to book structure.

  • Students will be left with an object that will encourage them to further stretch their imagination once completed.

  • 4 visits at 45 minutes each
  • Prep hours: 2.5 hours per classroom
