We share these listings in an opportunity for artists in our community to develop professionally and forward their career. That said, we also feature artist opportunities directed towards youth and young adults.

THE HIGH COUNTRY PAINTOUT PRESENTED BY OAKRIDGE COUNCIL FOR ARTS AND CULTURE

July 24th-28th and July 31st-August 3rd

Experience the charm of the Oakridge and Westfir area during the inaugural paint out presented by Oakridge Council for Arts and Culture.

  • Week 1: July 24th at the Flying Dog Gallery, concluding July 28th at the Diamond Peak Gallery, both on 1st Street in Oakridge.
  • Week 2: July 31st to August 3rd at the same locations.

No preregistration is required. Check in at the Flying Dog Gallery to get up to four canvases stamped. Any one is welcome to paint. Competition participation is fee is $20 for up to four paintings. Artists are requested to paint within a 20-mile radius of Oakridge. There’s a special no-fee category for students.

Artwork will be displayed for a month at the Sweetvine Bakery on Hwy 58. Prizes valuing over $1100 will be awarded.

CALL FOR ART AT THE MULTNOMAH ARTS CENTER (MAC) GALLERY

Deadline to Submit: July 31st

The Multnomah Arts Center (MAC) Gallery is excited to announce its 2024 Call for Art. Emerging and established visual artists living in Oregon and Southwest Washington are invited to apply. Musicians, writers, filmmakers, and other artists whose work would complement the visual artwork are also invited to apply.

The gallery committee reviews the applications from the Call for Art and chooses the artists who will exhibit. Each year two regional artist-curators are invited to lead this selection process. This year MAC is honored to have Kanani Miyamoto and Pablo V. Cazares on the committee. Exhibitions from this Call will be scheduled in 2025 through early 2026.

THE BETTY BOWEN AWARD PRESENTED BY THE SEATTLE ART MUSEUM

Deadline to Submit: August 1st, 2024

Administered by the Seattle Art Museum, the annual Betty Bowen Award honors a Northwest artist for their original, exceptional, and compelling work. The winner is awarded an unrestricted cash prize of $15,000, and a selection of their works is shown at the Seattle Art Museum. In addition, up to two Special Recognition Awards in the amount of $2,500 and three Special Commendation Awards in the amount of $1,250 are often granted at the discretion of the Betty Bowen Committee.

The winner is selected in a two-part jury process. In the first round, the applicants are reviewed anonymously. Six finalists are selected from the pool of applicants. Finalists are then invited to present their work to the committee in the second round and will receive an honorarium of $500 for related expenses. After this review process, the committee selects one award winner in addition to any special recognition award winners they wish to honor.

The award is open to visual artists in all media working in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Artists of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

CALL FOR ARTISTS FOR UVA’S ANNUAL UMPQUA PLEIN AIR EVENT

UVA’s Umpqua Plein Air event and exhibition is back August 19th – 23rd, 2024. This annual well-attended event will feature a week of painting outdoors and celebrating the beauty of Douglas County. The 14th Annual Umpqua Plein Air event will host artists from across the region over a 5-day paint-out event where they will go across the Umpqua Valley and paint the incredibly varied landscapes that surround Umpqua Valley. Painters will return to UVA and submit their works to be juried by guest juror, Anton Pavlenko.

CALL FOR ARTISTS FOR CALDERA AIR RESIDENCY

Caldera offers artists, creatives, and cultural workers time and space at their Arts Center to deepen creative practice, experiment, and disrupt the status quo. They invite creatives of any discipline to find inspiration from the natural world surrounding Caldera’s property in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Central Oregon.

Find community and discover new possibilities while expanding Caldera’s creative ecosystem of more than 300 artists. Their residency program supports the mission by showcasing diverse adult learners with a regular creative practice and sometimes connects artist residents with Caldera youth for direct instruction.

2025 application submissions close on Sun, August 4, 2024 11:59 PM for the opportunity to take residence on the following dates:

ANNUAL DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS EXHIBIT PRESENTED BY THE MAUDE KERNS ART CENTER

Deadline to Submit: August 9th 2024

The Maude Kerns Art Center is accepting submissions for our 31st annual Día de los Muertos Exhibit, which takes place October 11 – November 2. All artists, working in all mediums, are eligible. There is a $20 application fee. All entries are due, or must be postmarked by, Monday, August 9, 2024. Work must be original and must focus on the Mexican Day of the Dead, which blends the ancient harvest rituals of the Aztec god of death and the Roman Catholic holidays of All Saints and All Souls Days. The celebration honors the dead and acknowledges the link between the communities of the living and the dead.

CITY OF SPRINGFIELD UPSTREAM ART: STORM DRAIN MURAL PAINTING PROJECT

Deadline to Submit: August 14th, 2024, artist sketch and application are due online

The City of Springfield seeks artists of all ages and from any Oregon location for our summer mural-painting project, UpStream Art. Up to four artists will be compensated $1,500 each for painting sidewalk murals in the Thurston area of east Springfield on September 19th-20th, 2024.

  • August 14th: Artist’s sketch and application are due
  • Late August: Judges select four winning designs
  • September 11th: Artists attend mandatory online artist orientation
  • September 13th: Artist signed contract is due with the city
  • September 19th: Artists paint murals in the Thurston area of east Springfield from 8am-4pm both days

There will also be many other prizes awarded by our generous business sponsors. All accepted entries will be on display for the duration of the exhibit.

These murals increase awareness of the connection between city streets and local waterways, with the goal of inspiring community members to do their part in preventing pollutants from entering neighborhood storm drains. We do this because we support local art and we care about clean water! A major source of pollution in the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers is contaminants from urban areas washing into storm drains and out to the rivers. This is a unique and creative opportunity to reach people and help the environment.

35TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW: ‘A CELEBRATION OF ART’ AT THE MINDPOWER GALLERY

The Mindpower Gallery in Reedsport, Oregon will Celebrate 35 years in business with an artist exhibit that will span over 6,000 square feet of space. The Gallery is inviting artists across Oregon to submit up to two pieces of art for its juried 35th Anniversary Show for it’s ‘A Celebration of Art’ curated exhibition that is unique to Oregon artists.

  • August 24th: Submission deadline
  • August 26th: Acceptance announcement
  • September 10th-14th: Delivery dates between 10am-5pm
  • September 27th-October 31st: The show dates
  • November 1st-9th: Pick up dates between 10am-5pm

Submissions are open to all 2D and 3D artworks, including fine crafts. All artwork must be new and in ‘ready to hang or exhibit’ formats. “Zone 4 ALL” Non-Juried OPEN SHOW Fall 2024

Deadline to Submit: Sunday, August 25th 2024 at 8pm, online at newzonegallery.org

The exhibit will take place at New Zone Gallery Collective on 110 E 11th Ave in Eugene, OR. The exhibit dates are September 6th-27th with an opening reception to be held on Friday, September 6th at 5:30pm.

  • Up to two, 2-D piece(s), under 36″ in width, or 3-D work will be accepted (2-D work must have proper hanging wire)
  • These must be delivered to the New Zone Art Collective on Saturday, August 31st between 12-6pm
  • An entry fee of $15 per piece of work displayed

  • Size limit for the frame is 36 inches in width

If your art sells you will recieve 65% of the proceeds, with New Zone retaining 35% of the commission. Cards of prints of displayed work are also accepted to sell.

2024 SO SMALL MINIATURE ART AUCTION PRESENTED BY THE OSLP ARTS & CULTURE CENTER 

Deadline to Submit: September 6th, 2024 

The OSLP Arts & Culture Center is seeking miniature art submissions for the annual So Small Art Auction.

  • 2D artwork: Area to be no more than 9 square inches. Examples: 3” x 3”, 2” x 4”, & 1” x 9”
  • 3D artwork: Must have a volume of no more than 27 cubic inches (about the size of a Rubik’s Cube). In addition, the footprint of 3D artwork must be 4” x 4” or smaller.

All artwork is a donation to OSLP Arts and Culture Center. The auction will take place September 21st at 5th St Market Alley.

OREGON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE ART CONTEST

Deadline to Submit: September 27th, 2024

Artists are invited to compete in the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s 2025 Habitat Conservation Stamp, Waterfowl Stamp, and Upland Game Bird Stamp art competitions. Winning artwork is used to produce collector stamps and other promotional items (e.g., prints, wine label, etc.) with sale proceeds benefiting Oregon’s fish and wildlife and their habitats. The winning artist for each context will receive a $2,000 award.

Subject: Each stamp contest has a list of eligible species, which are as follows:

  • Upland Game Bird: California Quail
  • Waterfowl: Ring-necked Duck, White-winged Scoter, or Barrow’s Goldeneye
  • Habitat Conservation: A select list of Strategy Species identified in the Oregon Conservation StrategyNot all species in the Strategy are eligible, so please use the qualifying list of species to select your subject matter.

SPRINGFIELD ARTS COMMISSION MUSICIAN APPLICATION

The Springfield Arts Commission is looking for musicians to perform during Springfield’s Second Friday Art Walk!  Any type or style of music is welcome, but please note that the music is intended to be in the background and complimentary to patrons viewing art.
  • All performances take place at City Hall in Springfield
  • Performances take place on the second Friday of each month between 5-6:45
  • Performers receive a $100 stipend, and are included in all pre-event promotions, including email marketing, press releases and posters
  • Approved applicants will be contacted regarding scheduling

SURFACE GALLERY SEEKING NEW MEMBERS

The mission of SURFACE is to foster the development of socially, ecologically and financially sustainable careers in the arts through studios, gallery space, educational programming, and onsite childcare. A members gallery focused on sustainability is one way to fulfill the mission, and registration is open for new artist members! This opportunity is open to artists residing in Oregon at least 6 months of the year, and that are working with or working towards sustainable practices and sustainable materiality in their artwork. PROGRESSIVE STICKER ART NEEDED

GiveMore, a fundraising platform to help fundraisers find new donors, is seeking artists to create and submit original artwork to be printed on stickers. Members of the public can get one free sticker, or make a donation to receive more than one sticker and/or move to the front of the line, and artists will receive 10% of the funds raised for their stickers. Artwork should be progressive in nature and should be on topics such as Black Lives Matter, Environmental Justice, LGBTQ+, or other relevant movements. GiveMore hopes to feature the work of BIPOC and members of the LGBTQIA+ communities.

URBAN CANVAS

This mural program through the City of Eugene provides opportunities for local artists to create public murals by connecting artists and wall owners and serving as a liaison for the process. Urban Canvas is looking for both artists and wall owners who want to participate.

All professional artists and craftsmen are invited to join Artists Sunday, the free nationwide promotional event encouraging consumers to shop with artists. It’s like Black Friday, but for art, the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Participation is free and we are partnering in the effort. Artist participants receive a comprehensive marketing toolkit to generate buzz and awareness. Join individual artists and supportive organizations across the country in this unique and powerful promotion.
