About the Program

Lane Arts Council has launched a new downtown initiative centered on product design. Utilizing creative apprenticeship and entrepreneurship opportunities, Product of Eugene will support creative place-making and arts engagement. Middle and high school students will apprentice with professionals in graphic, digital, and physical design. Product of Eugene is a partnership with the University of Oregon Department of Product Design and their new space at 942 Olive Street in downtown Eugene.

Each professional product designer will be paired with 2-3 students who will learn what it is like to make a living in the product design profession by visiting their studio, business, or utilizing the technology available at the 942 Olive Street Building. Students complete a total of 25 hours for the term, supporting both college and career readiness. Students will work with the artist primarily during the after-school hours and will need to arrange for transportation ahead of time (bus passes can be provided). Schedules may differ between each artist’s student group. At the end of the program, a student showcase will provide participants the opportunity to present their products and share their experience with family, friends, and community members.
