Presenter: Kate Ali, Public Art Manager, City of Eugene Cultural Services Division

As a professional artist trying to break into the field of art in public places, applying to public art projects can feel intimidating and overwhelming. This workshop will demystify the application process through the lens of a percent for art project from start to finish. We will look at how percent for art projects are developed, how to gain the necessary experience to be considered for a public art project, project application tips, as well as project proposal dos and don’ts.

About Kate Ali:
Kate Ali has worked as an Art Coordinator for the Oregon Arts Commission’s Percent for Art Program for the last five years, managing over twenty percent for art projects. She is a co-founder of the Gray Space Project, a Eugene Art Thread member and has exhibited her sculptural works across the West Coast, Brooklyn and Japan. Her public art experience ranges from artist and designer to project manager, giving her a unique perspective on the public art world. Kate is currently the Public Art Manager for the City of Eugene.
