During the 2022-2023 school year, students at the Academy of Arts and Academics High School in Springfield will collaborate with Lane Arts Council Teaching Artist Alejandro Sarmiento to create a new mural celebrating the labor movement in Springfield and honoring important moments of the labor movement’s past and present, while also imagining what the future of labor will look like. Alejandro and A3 students will create the design based on ideas and feedback from members of multiple local unions. The mural will be painted on the exterior wall of 645 Main Street, downtown Springfield, in the spring of 2023. This visible recognition and reminder of the many roles labor continues to play in the community will unite art, learning, and the labor movement.

Please help make the Labor Movement Mural a reality with your tax deductible donation. All funds raised will support the $15,000 effort to create a lasting statement in downtown Springfield and celebrate workers in our community – past, present, and future.

This mural will be a re-imagining of the “Jessie Bostelle Memorial Mural” by Alison McNair that was previously on the exterior of the Emerald Art Center.
