The Lane County Cultural Coalition supports and encourages the cultural life of Lane County as the local branch of the Oregon Cultural Trust.  For 2018, they gave $41,081.95 to arts, heritage, and cultural individuals and organizations.

CROW offers its 8th consecutive session of Summer Theatre Camps at CROW Center for the Performing Arts in Florence.  Funds from this grant will provide 10 full scholarships and cover material costs for families that cannot afford the tuition.

The Rural Art Center
Mexican Folk Dances in the Country

The Rural Art Center serves the Crow-Applegate-Lorane School District with broad-based art programming. This funding will provide a series of Mexican folk dances at six different locations for all age groups. Participants will learn the history, cultural heritage, and significance of the dances, be taught basic steps, and be invited to join an open dance after the introductory performance.

A Makerspace is a DIY place where people can gather together to create, invent, and learn.  The funding will be used to purchase a large workbench and closet set, bins, supplies, and tools to create a Library Makerspace within their large meeting room.

Eugene Opera
La Puente a La Opera (A Bridge to Opera)

Eugene Opera will produce its first opera in Spanish, Maria de Buenos Aires, a tango operetta by Astor Piazzolla, in May 2018 at the Hult Center.  The funding will be used to reach Hispanic/Latino populations and subsidize tickets.

5th Annual Eugene Salsa Festival

The 5th Annual Eugene Salsa Festival will be held in February of 2018.  The festival brings master instructors, performers, and musicians who represent countries across Latin America.  The event aims to raise the profile of Latin music and dancing in the local community.  The funding will help subsidize the venue cost in order to keep prices affordable to attendees from a variety of backgrounds.

The funding will increase children’s access to books representing diverse cultural experiences by purchasing additional culturally-relevant literature to include in SMART’s give-away books.  This will serve 1,250 PreK-3rd graders participating in the SMART reading program at 24 sites in Lane County during the 2017-2018 school year.

Black Composers of the New World: Bologne to Holland

During Black History Month, Chamber Music Amici presents works that span three centuries, from composer Joseph Bologne to William Grant Still and Jonathan Bailey Holland.  They will also collaborate with NAACP of Lane County to bookend the concert with a presentation at MLK Day in January and a reprise at the historic Mims House in March.

This funding will help with the production of a booklet documenting the oldest semi-continuous event in Lane County, the Rhododendron Festival.  The booklet will continue the Museum’s pioneer publication format and will be sold at the museum, at the 2018 Rhododendron Festival, and beyond.

Cottage Theatre

In August 2018, Cottage Theatre will stage the world premiere production of Treehouse by Alabama playwright Joe Musso.   This production is offered as part of the American Association of Community Theatre’s 2018 NewPlayFest and they are one of just six community theatres across the country selected to participate.
