Color and form are the foundations of how we perceive our universe. This program
will introduce children to the magical properties of color and how they can use color
to describe their world, express their feelings, and connect with each other. We will
achieve this through color mixing, abstract and representative painting, and
observing the many different color relationships around us.
Students will complete a colorful original canvas painting using the techniques learned through the residency.
Students will learn how to mix almost any color from the three primary colors and
white, demonstrating an understanding of basic color theory.
Students will be able to identify the various colors they mix, in particular browns and
grays, in the world around them and learn how to use these colors to making
paintings based on things they see or feel.
Students will learn how to hold use paintbrushes and learn a number of different
techniques and styles using these brushes.
Students will learn how painting is an important part of human history across cultures and
why it is important for them in their own lives.
Students will develop an appreciation for their own connections to Artmaking.
“I teach because I have something to share, something I learned from years of Artmaking. Teaching, sharing ideas and methods to help another’s journey, is an important calling for an Artist and one I am happy to answer. I want my passion for Art inspires others.” -Will Paradis
