Project Description
Transform everyday recycled materials into one-of-a-kind papier-mâché and mixed media puppets. Through a playful approach to exploring materials and techniques, students will imagine their own original characters and bring them to life. Teaching artist is happy to discuss curriculum extensions or tailor the project to support a particular unit of study.
Final Product
Each student will create their very own hand-made puppet.

- Students will use their imaginations and make creative choices
- Students will learn to work in papier-mâché and proper use and care of watercolor and paintbrushes
- Students will observe the form of recycled materials and find they are full of creative possibilities
- Students will be able to articulate visually and verbally their puppet’s unique character
Suggested Grades
- 2nd-12th grade
- This residency can be adapted for Kindergarten and 1st grade classes, if the teacher/student ratio in the room is 6:1
